who is bobby shmurda?

Bobby rose to fame in 2014 with his track ‘Hot N*gga’. The track’s popularity was amplified by his “shmoney dance” performed in the video, which became a meme and was widely imitated across video app Vine¬†at the time.

Bobby was subsequently signed to Epic Records, and had his debut studio album set for release in 2016.

Why did he go to jail?

In December 2014, however Bobby was arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit murder, reckless endangerment, and drug and gun possession. Bobby pleaded guilty and was held on $2 million bail. He was accused by police of being the leader of the GS9 gang.

In September 2016, Shmurda pleaded guilty to one count of third-degree conspiracy and one count of weapons possession, and was sentenced to seven years in prison. He was given credit for the two years already served, leaving five years left on his sentence, followed by five years of probation.

In August 2020, Bobby was denied parole. Following this, Bobby was set to serve his full sentence and be released in December 2021. However, following review, his good behaviour qualified Bobby for conditional release on February 23, 2021, given the rest of his sentence is to be served on parole.
