CHIP VS STORMZY: A Timeline

January 2020

Remember the beginning of 2020? The good old days – pre-Covid, when Brexit and an impending WW3 were the only things we had to worry about. This was also the time at which Wiley and Stormzy were at each other’s throats. Whilst Stormzy appeared to be the unanimous victor, one of his sends (‘Disappointed’) saw him make a pretty big statement:

“Number one in this thing of mine That’s what makes me the king of grime, so [Blows raspberry]”

Clearly Chip did not take Stormzy’s claim to royalty lightly, as seen in his track ‘Waze’ with Skepta and Young Adz.

“You ain’t been platinum, silver or gold, you ain’t even been bronze, you div You ain’t even done ten years in this ting ‘Round here we don’t hear you’re a king, man will take your throne Piss on your forehead, know your role With cold spitters you ain’t never been toe for toe Step in the ring, get shown the ropes”

Stormzy jumped on Tion Wayne’s ‘I Dunno’ with Dutchavelli to clap back at Chip, most of his sends making reference to his immense wealth and consequent envisioned superiority.

“Is he sending for me? I dunno What them boy there sell first week? I dunno When they ask for the fee let ’em know that’s it 1.5 for the headline show Little n****, that’s milli’s, not thousands Stormzy the goat but they really been doubtin’ Came offline, I’ve been chillin’ in mountains”

June 2020

As evidenced by a video that came to light recently, in June of this year Stormzy appeared to pull up at Chip’s residence with his mates unannounced, looking to cause trouble. Various sources have confirmed that whilst Chip was not home at the time, Stormzy & Co. made their way into the building where family was present, caused a commotion and subsequently had to be escorted out by the police. In the recently viral video of the group exiting the premises, Stormzy’s voice is recognisable yelling for Chip to call him, which was not well received by the videographer.

Fast-forward to this month, and the video of Stormzy pulling up at Chip’s goes viral. In a since deleted tweet on October 7th, Chip makes it known that he’s seen the video. Later that evening he drops ‘Flowers’, shot at the same Shell Station where he first sent for Bugzy back in 2015.

“Sent you my address out of love (Come) Two days later, tryna pull up with your thugs, what type of packet is you on?”

And if one wasn’t enough, Chip immediately drops ‘Killer MC’ the same evening.

“Money can’t buy technique, just chill If I don’t say it, who will?”

The next day, Chip posts on his Instagram story, challenging Stormzy to send back within 48 hours. After 24 pass, Chip takes to Twitter to vent his frustration (in a post which he has since deleted).

And that just about brings us up to date. It’s been a week now since Chip’s most recent sends for Stormzy, with complete silence on the latter’s end. Would Stormzy airing Chip entirely be an even greater par, or has he only done damage to his reputation within the scene? Be sure to let us know via our socials and the poll below.
