PIE has caught up with Manchester-based, rising rapper – Tantzz, to get know him a bit more.

Originally from Camden, the artist has settled nicely into Manchester’s thriving musical infrastructure. Since the beginning of his career his affinity for laying down hard-hitting tracks with punchy instrumentals, has subsequently allowed him to garner a loyal audience while asserting himself as one to watch.

Hey Tantzz, could you introduce yourself?

*Laughs* My age can’t be disclosed right now, I’m a big man though. I’m originally from London but now based in Manchester.

Has Covid-19 stifled your creativity (if you’ve been creating) at all?

In terms of recording music not at all. But shooting videos has been a bit difficult to get hold of decent locations and stuff.

So you’ve just dropped “Let Me Be”, talk to to us about the inspiration behind it?

I just wanted to drop something fresh on my own youtube channel, I heard the beat and instantly started spazzing, it all stemmed from being in my house bored to be honest.

What made you want to get into music?

I grew up in Camden, so the older guys around the area were doing garage before it evolved into grime. Then I was introduced to Channel U, so I mostly grew up on that.

More specifically who were your musical influences and who did you listen to growing up?

I listened to a lot of Ghetts, P Money, Double S, Chip, Griminal. Hardcore grime stuff, but as I got older my ear for music branched out.

Do you feel as though any of those artists have influenced your current sound?

In a way it did, growing up I was constantly listening to them, so subconsciously I got better because they were setting the benchmark.

Would you say you’re still experimenting with it or have you settled on a sound?

I’m a music man so I’m always going to adapt and experiment, settling with one sound limits you.

Manchester’s scene is on the rise at the moment, what do you think sets the city apart from the rest of the country?

The accent for one *laughs*, there’s a new style of west coast rap that seems to be thriving over here, so that’s different.

Where do you see yourself career-wise in 5 years?

Only God can tell, I’m living in the moment.

Tell us some up and coming artist’s that you’re enjoying at the moment?

Prido, M1 Dims, David Rey, Youngs SG, 26Only (MB26)

What’s next for Tantzz?

Videos on videos baby, I’m going to be all up in your face this year!
