Course Overview
‘A Foot In: To Radio’ is a unique hands on pathway for learners to start a career in the Radio and Media industry. The programme will provide an insight into the various possible career paths in the industry whilst improving participant’s technical, social, and interpersonal skills.

The project will be delivered in 6 core modules for 16 weeks, with each session running for up to 4 hours, with additional tasks to be carried out independently online and at the studio as a volunteer.
Modules
Getting Technical
This will cover various technical aspects of radio including audio equipment, computer, software, licensing, ethics, code of conduct, Playout One system, etc.
Introduction to Radio Production
This will cover radio production, producing a radio show, music editing, postproduction, station management, broadcasting, outdoor broadcasts and more.
Introduction to Radio Presenting
This will focus on developing participants presentation skills, developing good radio habits, interview skills, research skills, teamwork skills, understanding a station’s brand, developing audiences and more.
Understanding Marketing and Social Media
This will look into what marketing is, how to market and promote effectively, understanding social media (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter), the advantages and disadvantages of each platform, setting up a professional account, how to communicate your brand effectively and staying safe online.
Introduction to Podcasting
This will focus on improving your understanding of what a podcast is, the benefits, potential impact on your business and brand, growing trends, what equipment and software you’ll need, structuring a podcast, recording techniques, post-production and more.
Employability Skills Development
This will focus on offering technical and practical skills that will get you ready for work. Activities include self-management; team working; business and enterprise; customer awareness; problem-solving; communication; working with numbers; IT in the workplace; applying for a job; exploring job opportunities; rights and responsibilities at work; and health and safety in the workplace. Working with our local partners you will be offering volunteering and placement opportunities within the industry.
Qualifications / Accreditations
There are no exams, all assessment is through practical project work. You will work to create your own radio show, podcast and social media, as well as collaborating with others. All learners will receive a Pie Radio Training certificate, ASDAN Employability Skills Development certificate, and digital badges ‘Internet & Web, Digital Ethics, Teamwork, Social media ethics and Personal State’.

- Monday 6th September – Monday 20th December 2021, 12 pm to 4 pm weekly (Recruiting Now)
Eligibility
To take part in the project, the learner must be unemployed, over the age of 16, actively seeking employment and available to work.
