Uncle Waffles will feature with a set, originally from Eswatini, the 21-year-old DJ has recently soared in popularity. Check out this video of her playing in Kenya.
Born Themba Sekowe in Soshanguve, Pretoria and now known as DJ Maphorisa, the record producer, DJ and vocalist has worked with major artists including Wizkid, Major Lazer, Kabza De Small, Black Coffee, Mafikizolo and Kwesta. He is currently signed to his record label BlaqBoy Music.
Following from his single ‘Y-Tjukutja’ that topped charts in 2013 and was considered the biggest South African song of the year, DJ Maphorisa has continued to produce hits.
Maphorisa was a co-producer of ‘One Dance’ by Drake, Wizkid and Kyla which reached number one in 15 countries and was named by Billboard as the 2016 song of the summer. The success of that hit song placed him on the global stage from which he continues to grow, with his signature style of South African inspired house fused with Afrobeats.
DJ Maphorisa & Tyler ICU’s huge track ‘Izolo’ came out last year and the music video now has over 13 million views on YouTube. Maphorisa also features on Focalistic’s new track ‘16 Days No Sleep’, the music video for which was released 11 February.
