Jack Harlow sweeps the MTV’s VMA awards ceremony for 2022, taking home a total of four ‘Moonman’ trophies, more than any other artist this year.
Alongside the Song of the Summer award he won for “First Class”, Harlow’s “Industry Baby”, in collaboration with Lil Nas X, was responsible for the other three awards Harlow won for Best Collaboration, Best Art Direction and Best Visual Effects. This impressive haul of wins emulated the achievements of Taylor Swift, Harry Styles and Lil Nas X at this year’s ceremony, who all went home with three awards.
Celebrating his success with his fans on social media, this Instagram post of Harlow cradling his awards simply read ‘4 PIECE.’ On Twitter, his reaction was more explicit, describing how he felt ‘Happy as hell’ and ultimately thanking his fans ‘for everything.’
However, Harlow’s domination of the night didn’t stop with the countless awards he received. His presence was literally dominant as he co-hosted the show alongside Nicki Minaj and LL COOL J. The former was awarded the prestigious MTV Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award in recognition for her trail-blazing efforts as a female hip-hop artist.
Additionally, Harlow’s performance of his award-winning “First Class” provided a highlight of the night. Featuring cameos from Lil Nas X, Jimmy Fallon, Avril Lavigne and Saucy Santana, the performance was culminated with the surprise assist of Fergie, Black Eyed Peas singer, whose song “Glamorous” is sampled on Harlow’s hit. You can watch Harlow’s iconic performance below.
Other notable performances included Nicki Minaj’s medley of hits and Eminem and Snoop Dogg’s return to the awards show. Their last performance together was at the 1999 VMAs with Dr. Dre. Inspired by the metaverse, they pretended to smoke an oversized joint on stage as they showcased their latest single “From the D 2 the LBC.”
UK fans were left disappointed after Harlow, one of the original headliners for Reading and Leeds festival, pulled out purportedly as a result of his schedule. However his UK tour of his album ‘Come Home the Kids Miss You’ begins on the 2nd November. Harlow brings the show the Manchester’s Victoria Warehouse on November 4th.
