On November 19th, slowthai dropped two beautiful tracks ‘nhs’ and ‘feel away’. These two tracks tease his new album, Tyron, that is set to be released February 5th 2021. The mood of these tracks turns away from the punk style of his previous album, Nothing Great About Britain.

NHS

Slowthai comments on Twitter that he wrote ‘nhs’ “as a reminder to always appreciate what you have whilst you have it”. He further says that you should “be happy and make do with what you have”.  Green fields and cloudy skies open the video which is nostalgic of a British summer. The shot cuts to slowthai topless in his bedroom rapping into the camera. His intricate and smooth flow carries us over a chilled contemporary beat. This track shows slowthai’s versatility as an artist, as he is able to reveal a softer side to his rap.

Feel away

‘Feel away’ features award winning British producer, James Blake alongside electronic duo Mount Kimbie. This track has a similar tranquil vibe to ‘nhs’. Slowthai raps with regular rhythm over a melodic beat juxtaposed with James Blake’s angelic vocals in the second phase of the song. Slowthai says the track is about “the doubts we have whether it be within friendships, your partner or family”. Furthermore, he notes “it’s about putting yourself in the other person’s shoes so you have a better understanding of the situation”. Slowthai’s freaky music video takes empathy to the extreme where he grows a pregnant belly in a maternity ward.

Slowthai never fails to disappoint. The delivery and composition of both tracks is a masterpiece. The wacky but creative concept of his music video for ‘feel away’ keeps fans excited and entertained. On the other hand, the more nostalgic visuals of ‘nhs’ evoke a sense of familiarity amongst his audience.

Keep your eyes peeled for the album release early next year.
