5 funny things that happened during 2020

Written in no particular order, here is a list of things that made us, and most of the world, cry laughing this year.

No.1. Tiger King

Start this off with a bang! On March 20th 2020, Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness first aired on Netflix. On March 28th 2020, the U.K. went into its first lockdown. All I will say on this matter is that I still laugh not only at anything related to Joe Exotic or Carole Baskin, but the fact I wasted 5 hours watching it, hours I am never going to get back…

No.2 Chanel the Parrot

Sandra aka. Chanel’s Ma, went viral earlier this year, sadly for the wrong reasons. Her ‘African Grey’ parrot ‘flew towards the canal’. Her opening line ‘please everyone share this‘ in her delightful Scouse accent, sent the nation into an uproar as Sandra cried ‘CHANEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLL’ with the hope her parrot would return to her. Thankfully, Chanel was found and returned safely to Sandra and her family. Who would have thought a missing animal campaign video would be so funny?

No.3. Maureen from Barnsley

Okay, this straight-talking lady is what the country needs and she speaks a lot of common sense. Her lines ‘I’m 83, I don’t give a sod’ and ‘I’m going to be dead’ lines tickled this nation massively. It’s a classic morbid response from this elderly legend, which made this lady go viral and overshadowed her main message about lockdowns.

No.4 DJ Cael

In 3 words, what a lad. Cael got suspended for holding a successful rave in the boy’s school toilets in Urmston. Cael even provided drinks and sweets for his fellow ravers. When called by the school to explain his suspension, all his mother could do was laugh at the situation and, so did the rest of the world. DJ Cael went viral and a gofundme page was set up to upgrade his equipment for future raves.

Just had a call from Caels school He had organised a rave in the boys toilets at dinner time invited all the boys from…

No.5. Filtered Italian Priest

Bless you father, for you have not sinned, but, your online mass in Italy sent the world into hysterics. When holding a Catholic Mass online, this Priest didn’t realise that he had in fact turned the filters on. So as he was spreading the word of God in a time where comfort was needed, he also spread some laughter, as he was seen at various points wearing robot helmets and cat ears whilst his filter setting was still switched on. In a moment of misery, this Priest provided his mass with the sentiments of the lord, and a few chuckles along the way.

Although 2020 has been a dreadful year for most people, one thing this country is very good at doing is finding the humour in a bad situation. We have had years of practice in a variety of circumstances, that not even a pandemic can stop this country from having a laugh. The rest of the world has managed to find the humorous needles in a miserable 2020 haystack.
