One of the hottest and most prized roles in the movie industry that can be given to you is the role of James Bond. The suave secret-spy has been played by some of Hollywood’s hottest stars – from Sean Connery to Pierce Brosnan, to currently Daniel Craig. The question is, who’s going to be the next 007?
The most common name being brought up is Idris Elba – he would also be the first ever black James Bond. Author of the new James Bond novels Anthony Horowitz said previously that he believed that there should be a black James Bond, however after discussing the prospect of Idris Elba playing Bond, he claimed that Elba was ‘Too Street’ to play James Bond.
This caused a huge storm on social media – as innocently as Horowitz may have meant it, to call someone ‘street’ in this day and age can be seen as incredibly disrespectful, and it can carry serious negative connotations. However, the comments made may have been related to his more rougher gimmick which seems to be so prevalent in most of Elba’s films, so Horowitz may just be attempting to protect the James Bond franchise from being diluted with the wrong kind of character.
