Nigerian rapper and YBNL signee Olamide returns with his new album “Unruly” after a two-year hiatus since his prior release “UY Scuti”.

The artist tweeted about his progress creating the album and how he really wanted to take his time making it, stating that he wanted it to be his “best ever”. He also claimed that it would be his last album however that seems unlikely considering his recent success alongside his labelmate Asake with the song “Amapiano”, which became an international hit eariler this year.

With that being said, it seems like Olamide’s meticulous musical crafting paid off, as the album feels like everything his fan base could ask for. “Unruly” has professional and highly produced beats that heighten his traditional bouncy Afrobeat sound.

Songs like: “Problem”, “Celebrate”, “Gaza” and “Trumpet” are among some of my favourite songs off the album and highlight Olamide’s progression as an artist. Creating fun, tropical sounding hits seems to come effortlessly for Olamide and its clear that he knows exactly what to do and say on every song as if it were second nature.

On the other hand, it would be a lie to say Olamide does anything new or anything remotely out of his comfort zone, this sound is definitely something we have seen before throughout his career, however he’s an artist who knows what his strong suits are and as the saying goes, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”.

The album also features other big names in the African music scene, including: Rema, Fireboy DML, CKay, Bnxn and of course Asake.

“Unruly” is available on all streaming platforms and can be listened to right here!
