Nigerian Afro-pop star Rema released his debut album ‘Rave & Roses’ last Friday (25th March). Take a listen to the sixteen tracks on Spotify now.

‘Calm Down’ is predicted to be one of the album’s biggest hits. Its official music video was released just last month and has gained a significant nineteen million views! Speaking on the idea behind the track, Rema said it “is about the events that led me to finding love at the time. It started at a party where I saw a girl who stood out from other girls so I felt like shooting my shot. We spoke and danced but her friends didn’t let me get any closer which killed the vibe, but afterwards when they weren’t there, we stayed in touch and hit it off.”

Originally from Benin City in Southern Nigeria, Rema was born as Divine Ikubor. He has described his music as belonging to Afrorave style.

Rema has collaborated with Drake for ‘Mention Me’, which is as yet not officially released. Check out this clip from Drake’s Instagram live where he reveals their upcoming collab.

Rema’s musical talent has even received appreciation from Barack and Michelle Obama. The couple previously included his debut single ‘Iron Man’ in their annual summer playlist. Rema took to Twitter to thank the former President and First Lady for shining a spotlight on his music.
