After teasing the new single last week on social media, Ed Sheeran has released Afterglow – a single the guitarist wrote last year.
Ed Sheeran is pretty known for dropping music when we least expect it, which we have seen from the surprise releases of Castle On The Hill and Shape Of You back in 2017.
Afterglow is the singer’s first release since his No.6 Collaborations Project in 2019.
The singer teased a new album but revealed that this isn’t the album’s lead single.
He wrote in a statement: ‘Hey guys. Afterglow is a song I wrote last year that I wanted to release for you.
‘It’s not the first single from the next album, it’s just a song I love and hope you love too. Enjoy! Have a safe and happy festive break and New Year’s. Back to dad land for me now, ciao x.’

The single is exactly what you’d expect from Ed Sheeran – regular base of the guitar, soppy lyrics that make you want to melt, and a cool but beautiful vocal.
With the excitement surrounding this new track, we can’t wait for Ed to drop a full-length album.
In typical Ed Sheeran style, he dropped the single and has been relatively quiet on social media since its release. This may have not played to his favour however, as the single only charted at no. 30 on the Official Singles Chart on Christmas Day.
You can check out the new song below. The tune is also available on Spotify and Apple Music.
