The Nigerian-American RnB sister act VanJess have kicked their 2021 off with a bang, dropping their second project Homegrown.

Homegrown comes 3 years after their debut album Silk Canvas. Needless to say, VanJess do not disappoint with this release. This EP ties together their Nigerian roots and an old school American sound.

Their 90s RnB girl group vibes comes through strong on this release, especially on the opening track Come Over.

They have also included a track they did with KAYTRANADA in 2019, DYSFUNCTIONAL. This breaks the EP up nicely as a move busting halfway point.

They still include a mix of slow jams on this project, and a mix of collabs. We love Caught Up with Phony Ppl.

Their beautiful combination of soulful vocals teamed with funky grooves makes this EP seem like a throwback to the good old days of the 90s RnB girl groups, but the samples and collabs make this a modern release fit for 2021.

VanJess are massively underrated, but I don’t think that will last once everybody hears this latest release.

Stream the Homegrown here, and if you like it, go give Silk Canvas a listen too!
